Two internationally acclaimed artists, British violinist Rupert Marshall-Luck and double SAMA-winning, South African pianist Peter Cartwright, present a recital full of colour and atmosphere. The British composer Frederick Delius’s Sonata no.3 for Violin and Piano is imbued with warmth, soaring melodies complemented by a rich harmonic palette; while Peter Klatzow’s Sonata shimmers with scintillating textures.
These works are presented alongside two concert favourites: Igor Stravinsky’s Suite Italienne, a quirky, yet vigorous interpretation of a commedia dell’arte drama; and the Sonata in D major of Sergei Prokofiev. Originally written for flute and piano, Prokofiev re-cast the sonata at the request of the Russian virtuoso violinist David Oistrakh: its combination of classical form with romantically full-blooded music has ensured the work’s established place in the recital repertoire.
