About

Die Potplant: ’n Tragedie
(Kabaret, komedie-drama)

(Cabaret, comedy-drama)

A sad, dusty pot plant stands alone in the lobby of an office. A pot plant is supposed to be alive and beautiful and make everyone who looks at it feel good. But what if she is the one who needs to escape?

The plant finds ways to overcome boredom with her twisted sense of humour and her singing. And she sings – a lot. Who says a pot plant can’t dream big?

This cabaret sheds light on the life of an unhappy plant, with other characters entering the landscape to offer comical commentary. The original excerpt was crowned with the KKNK Kanna for Best Lucky Pakkie Presentation in 2024.

Development supported by the KKNK, Toyota Stellenbosch Woordfees, NATi and the Johann Brink Trust.

Written and performed by Karli Heine, featuring Grethe van der Merwe. Directed by Dean Balie with lighting design by Stefan Benadé. Photos by Stephanie Maria Gericke.
