Op ’n doodgewone oggend, by ’n doodgewone dagsorgsentrum, beleef die driejarige Samuel die onkeerbare verwoester van onskuld – die nuus. Hy verander in ’n oogwink: Van ’n doodgelukkige kind na ’n moeë volwassene, dekades verouder deur haglike hoofopskrifte, tragiese gebeure en die lot van die mensdom wat hopeloos te swaar is vir sy jong skouers om te dra. Hierdie absurde tragikomedie handel oor die tol wat dit eis om te lewe in ’n geldgierige wêreld waar alles in duie stort. Dit is terselfdertyd ’n liefdesbrief aan ’n mens se kinderjare en ’n herinnering aan die een waarheid wat elke volwassene weet: Grootword is nie kinderspeletjies nie.

On a perfectly ordinary morning, at a perfectly ordinary daycare centre, three-year-old Samuel experiences the ineluctable destroyer of innocence – the news. He changes in the blink of an eye: from a blissfully happy child to a weary adult, aged decades by dire headlines, tragic events and the fate of humanity, all hopelessly too heavy for his young shoulders to bear. This absurd tragicomedy deals with the toll it takes to live in a greedy world where everything is collapsing. It is a love letter to childhood, and at the same time, a reminder of the one truth that every adult knows: growing up is not child’s play.
