Anna Maria della Pietà was Venisië se wonderkind.
Anna Maria della Pietà was Venician prodigy. By the age of eight she was already a violinist and composer, and at twelve she became the youngest concertmaster of the renowned orchestra of the Ospedale della Pietà. A foundling – the child of a prostitute – she was small enough to be passed through the convent’s infant gate, and strong enough to survive. Her music teacher was the brilliant, eccentric maestro Antonio Vivaldi, who dedicated 28 of his violin concertos to her – possibly because she herself composed parts of them? This intimate masterpiece of music and storytelling traces the life of Vivaldi’s most successful pupil, charting Anna Maria’s extraordinary journey from vulnerable foundling to celebrated maestra di violino and maestra di coro.
