South African baritone William Berger joins the Juliet String Quartet for a luminous evening of vocal chamber music under the banner of night. Following on from his debut album "Insomnia", Berger revisits the nocturnal theme with a programme that moves from the “broad and burning moon” of Respighi’s Il Tramonto to the lonely shores of Barber’s "Dover Beach". The programme also features intimate new transcriptions of songs by Clara Schumann, alongside William Alwyn’s "3 Winter Poems for String Quartet" and Borodin’s beloved String Quartet No. 2 in D major.
Berger has appeared on major international stages including the Royal Opera House, London and the Kennedy Center, Washington D.C. and has been honoured with the Lucerne Festival Prize, a Fleur du Cap and a Woordtrofee. Formed in 2014, the Cape Town–based, SAMA-nominated Juliet String Quartet brings its acclaimed artistry and commitment to South African repertoire to this evocative journey in sound.
