Under the baton of Brandon Phillips, the University of Cape Town (UCT) Symphony Orchestra collaborates with the Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (CPYO) in a programme spanning contemporary and Romantic masterworks. The evening opens with the world premiere of Chaos in Disguise, Part 1 by Kyle Benade, winner of UCT’s 2025 Jan Royce Foundation Prize for Orchestral Composition. Isaac van der Merwe, winner of the 2025 Laura Searle Piano Competition, performs Rachmaninoff’s lush and virtuosic Piano Concerto No. 2. The concert culminates in one of the world’s most beloved masterworks, Dvorák’s mighty Ninth Symphony, ‘From the New World’.
The first 100 UCT students receive free entry (early bird), after which tickets will cost R160.
