The UCT Symphonic Wind Ensemble, comprising of about forty-five under- and post-graduate students perform their second concert of 2026, conducted by Brandon Phillips, Head of Woodwind and Ensembles at UCT.
The programme showcases the versatility and expressive power of the wind ensemble, moving from the dramatic energy of James Barnes’s Symphonic Overture and Prelude for Symphonic Overture by UCT Composition Lecturer Jeremy Hart, to the lively rhythms of Alfred Reed’s El Camino Reel. The ensemble then explores the cinematic and Latin-infused sound world of Children of Sanchez arranged by Tokyo Kosei, before concluding with Robert W. Smith’s evocative African Ceremony, Song and Ritual, a vibrant work inspired by African musical traditions and ceremonial practices.
The first 100 UCT students receive free entry (early bird), after which UCT student tickets will cost R50.
