Dutch violinist Daniel Rowland, so loved by Cape Town audiences on his regular visits to the region, will give the first CPO performance of Latvian composer Peteris Vasks’ Violin Concerto No. 1, “Distant Light”, a work described as “nostalgia with a touch of tragedy”. Bernhard Gueller, conductor laureate of both the CPO and Symphony Nova Scotia in Canada, and the CPO will show why Schubert’s majestic Symphony No. 9 is simply called “The Great”.
