Reaxenia is a physical theatre play that uses the idea of a workshop as a space where a country tries to fix itself. Told through satire, movement, and sharp political commentary, the story follows a world where every attempt to solve one problem leads directly to another. Drawing on journalism and recognisable political figures, the production explores hunger in two ways: the lack of food and the hunger for truth. Set on the eve of the release of a groundbreaking newspaper article, Reaxenia reflects on the power of words and the way they can either build a nation or destroy it.
The production will be staged at Joburg Theatre Space.com as part of the Next Draft partnership with Joburg Theatre’s Youth and Community Development Unit.
