In this gripping one-hour drama, the domestic becomes a battlefield as Mapholoba returns home after years of absence, claiming to seek the truth while concealing a web of lies about his real motives. Set within an intimate room surrounded by the audience, the production places viewers in a “fly-on-the-wall” perspective, forcing them to witness the raw tension that unfolds between him and his wife, MaDlamini, who guards her own painful secrets just as fiercely.
What begins with ordinary moments — sharing a meal, exchanging familiar words, sitting through heavy silences punctuated by nostalgic songs — quickly becomes charged with unspoken history and emotional weight.
As the hour progresses and the clock ticks relentlessly forward, the marriage is stripped bare, revealing layers of betrayal, longing, and unresolved trauma. Each twist draws them closer to a truth that neither may be ready to face.
This powerful and intimate production explores love, absence, memory, and the devastating cost of buried secrets.
The production takes place at Joburg Theatre, presented in partnership between POP Art and the Youth and Community Development Unit at Joburg Theatre.
Written and created by Sam Khuzwayo, performed by Nolwazi Qwabe and Mncedisi Hadebe, and directed and dramaturged by Aalliyah Zama Matintela.
