Ont- is ’n solostuk wat die grootwordproses van ’n jong Afrikaner ontleed. Die verteller staan op die drumpel van selfaanvaarding en bevryding, maar moet eers ’n bestekopname doen van die herinneringe uit sy kinderjare en die spoke van sy ouers. Hy lê verskeie grepe soos familiefoto’s voor die gehoor se voete neer en neem hulle op ’n reis van verlies, ontnugtering, identiteit, pyn en vreugde. Ont- is die eerste keer in 2011 opgevoer en het vyf jaar lank plaaslik en internasionaal getoer en onder meer vier Fiësta-toekennings, ’n Woordtrofee en ’n goue Standard Bank Ovation-prys gewen. In dié herbesoek word die verhaal, karakter en fiktiewe herinneringe deur ’n meer volwasse lens bekyk.

Ont- is a solo piece that analyses the coming of age of a young Afrikaner. The narrator stands on the threshold of self-acceptance and liberation, but must first take stock of his childhood memories and settle the ghosts of his parents. Through precious and familiar family objects he traces a journey of loss, disillusionment, identity, pain and joy. Ont- was first performed in 2011 and toured locally and internationally for five years, winning four Fiësta awards, a Woordtrofee and a Gold Standard Bank Ovation Award. In this production, the story, character and fictional memories are revisited through a more mature lens.
