About

DIMITERRE – When the Skin Comes Off derived from the Latin turn of phrase “to let go”, is an embodied solo performance in dance and physical theatre that journeys through the psychological terrain of detachment. Using trauma-informed embodiment, Butoh, aerial acrobatics, and a hybrid movement vocabulary, the work explores depersonalization, derealization, and the fragile process of returning to oneself. Rather than treating dissociation as absence, it presents it as a state of shifting emotional, somatic, and identity expression.

At its symbolic core is the peacock, reimagined not as spectacle, but as a paradox of protection and revelation. Its display becomes both shield and offering, mirroring the tension between external projection and internal truth. Here, self-expression is shown not as a polished outcome, but as a vulnerable, unfolding negotiation between concealment and emergence. The body becomes a site of rupture, resistance, and reconstruction.
