On the 23rd March 2025 – from 7am to 12am; Constitution Hill will host a symbolic walk to commemorate constitutionalism. The walk, which follows a path around points of significance in the city; encourages participants to demonstrate through carrying messaging / placards; walk and talk; and drumming for constitutionalism. The, We the People walk is a Symbolic 8KM walk that was launched in 2014; attracting over 4000 people in 2016.
The We The People Walk forms part of the 7th edition of the Human Rights Festival that pays homage to all those who lost their lives in the fight for democracy, particularly during the Sharpeville Massacre of 21 March 1960.
This year's festival will focus on the theme of “A JUST AND INCLUSIVE SOUTH AFRICA" aiming to engage communities in meaningful discussions and artistic expressions related to human rights.
Each year the festival unites NGOs, social justice organizations, think tanks media partners and more around human rights issues to committed to inspiring collective action towards a more just and equitable future for all. The festival has a range of other activities and showcases that include art exhibitions, theater, book fair and music.
